History
One Halloween night, a fierce beast from realms unknown appeared in the kingdoms. This creature of nightmare was the Chaos beast, who began to rampage through the Vale. Legend had it that whoever defeated the beast would claim its soul in the form of a blade of immense power, for it was formed of the chaotic energies of the beast itself.

Many brave adventurers battled with the beast, but only one managed to defeat it- SpyVsSpy, using the secret Spy trap Onyon, defeated the Chaos beast and claimed the sword for himself.

The weapon was later sold by SpyVsSpy for an unspecified amount of money to Venca, who sold the sword to Tiffy. It is currently in the hands of FriezaX.
ChiZao is an event character villain. As the physical embodiment of magic and master of the Guardians of the Four Directions, he is the most powerful entity in existence.

Personality and Special Traits
*Chi is a Chinese word for "energy/life" and Zao is one of the three romanized forms of the word Tao meaning "all/everything". So, together, ChiZao means the life of everything. In game lore, if ChiZao was destroyed all magical power in the world would cease to exist because he -is- magic itself.
* ChiZao absolutely hated being called "crazy" or "mad" and doing so makes him VERY UPSET!
* ChiZao genuinely believes the world is sick with war and hatred, and that he can only make it better by killing everyone, then transforming them into an undead servant who will mindlessly obey his every command.
* The more you fight or invoke him, the stronger he becomes.
*ChiZao respects people who posses great power.
*ChiZao is capable of learning all magical secrets effortlessly. The first thing he did when he was released was force his way into every subpath Circle and learn their spells from the trainers. He could even mimic any spell he witnessed being cast.
* ChiZao wielded a Blue dragon longsword, 2 Iron circles, and a Nagnang Robe. However, he could create any item he desired, and offered to reward people with gifts of legendary weapons if they helped him regain power.
* ChiZao was able to use some extremely high-level magic such as Wyrm strike, Summon Bubble and Terror.
* Summon Bubble enabled ChiZao to call for 'bubbles' (fish-like creatures, but with arms and legs), a unique kind of creature that had not been seen before.
Character Biography
Pre-Game Events History
ChiZao was born a mortal scholar in an unknown and ancient tribe of humans that lived in the area of what is now Buya and Koguryo.

ChiZao stumbled upon a hole in the barrier between our world and the ethereal one, becoming the living embodiment of magic in the process. He learned much from the ethereal spirits (most likely the ones from the Ethereal Temples event, but perhaps also Bon-Hwa?). ChiZao returned to our world and passed on his knowledge to four students who become the Totems: Chung Ryong, Baekho, Ju Jak and Hyun Moo. Together they taught all the people of the world about magic.

However, ChiZao fell into insanity, becoming corrupted by his power. He became an undead being of evil. ChiZao raised the dead as an army of zombies and tainted creatures of the world, twisting them into darkness (The Haunted Houses originate to this period of time, as do the Crypts south of Koguryo . Man-Shik may also have been created at this time).

The Four Guardians led humans tribes in a battle against ChiZao’s forces, ultimately defeating and sealing him away inside a tomb as to prevent the loss of magic in the world, for magic begins and ends with ChiZao. This tomb is located in what is now Nagnang.

Over the years, ChiZao’s powerful magic leaked out from his tomb, infecting the creatures intended to guard him. This area become known as the Vortex. The simple mechanical lock on ChiZao’s tomb proved ineffective, so the Mythic Animals were created by the Four Guardians and charged with guarding the Trigram Keys that seal ChiZao in his tomb prison.

(previous "canon" that King Yuri was responsible for the Mythic Animals trapped inside their caves was ret-conned by this storyline, see http://boards.nexustk.com/InquiringMinds/Zeylon12220103.html)

Nagnag Frees ChiZao
Nagnag was originally looking for a power that could rival that of the Darkstaff.

Players entered the crypt that had been dug out by Nagnang's mercenaries, and while trying to solve the mystery of the crypt, helped unlock the Trigram Seal so that the innermost tomb could be reached.

The tomb unlocked, Nagnag freed ChiZao, the one who was inside the tomb, and they declared they would conquer the world.

However, ChiZao then told people he was being controlled by Nagnang, and encouraged them to fight Nagnang in order to free them, offering that he could teach people more powerful magic if they helped him gain independence.

to be completed

ChiZao Reveals His True Self
<i>"Dear Citizens,

Recently Nagnag, who quickly found out why ChiZao was imprisoned in the tomb, has released ChiZao from his tomb. ChiZao has become a member of the undead, and a true threat to the citizens of the world. I feel confident that the eight gates will continue to hold him in the tomb area as they have for thousands of years already. ChiZao has proven that even after all this time he still posses some incredible power, and the ability to unleash it against all that come close. We must be careful not to do anything to help his powers grow any stronger.

<i>Spirit Guide"

ChiZao and the Renewal of the Earth
Long ago, before magic had appeared as a spark of life found in each living thing, there existed a great teacher, by the name of ChiZao. It was this teacher who helped give the world magic, by teaching it to four students. The students where the noble creatures of the cardinal directions of north, south, east, and west. These creatures, who have become known to us as the four totems, flourish under ChiZao tutelage. Magic had appeared in the lands of nexus, as by aide of the totems, it was shared with humanity. But power is not always a good thing. The power that magic entailed was soon corrupting the teacher that had brought the gift to light.

ChiZao was becoming to powerful, and the power was poisoning his heart. Afraid of what there teacher would do with his power, the totems set out to stop ChiZao anyway they could. It was in the lands of what is today nagnang that ChiZao would meet his destiny. Coming together, and using the force that they had been taught, the totems vanquished ChiZao to a tomb, where he would be trapped for eternity. The ground on which this tomb laid under slowly grew cold, as ChiZao succumbed to the coffin in which he now resided.

All was well, and for many Yuri's, the totems where in peace, knowing there master was safe from rages in the lands. But they didn't know that the land around his tomb, was growing warmer, and his power was returning to him. Little did they know, but Nagnag, the blacksmith of nagnang was seeking the power, to aide him in his quest of domination of the lands of nexus. The troops of Nagnag set out to find ChiZao and remove him from his tomb, and back to power.

Mysterious creatures appeared among the land, attacking all who dare step outside. The kingdoms where plunged in terror at the hideous creatures inhabiting there cities. No one was safe, and the totems, in the void saw that there fears had come true. But the totems could not leave the void with out the help of the people. The armies struggled to keep the creatures at bay, while finding the source of the chaos.

The kingdoms searched long and wide for the source, until the clues started falling into place, as maps where found, copied, and passed around showing the kingdoms the way to the dangers of ChiZao. Upon reaching the mercenary camp of Nagnag, the citizens found the tomb of ChiZao in a cave that had been dug from the ground. Those brave enough to enter found more terror, as the creatures that had taken hold of the cities existed here, more powerful, and fueled by the warmth of the ground.

They fought long and hard, to destroy the creatures, grabbing the runes that the creatures had gotten as a bribe by ChiZao. The scholars of the lands worked hard to decipher and find the uses of these runes as the battle raged on. Soon the citizens fighting for there life discovered the key to the inner tomb, and those brave of heart entered to find the coffin of ChiZao.

The time for ChiZao to rise had come, and with the help of his minions, he did so with a power never seen before. He attacked all who dared to come closer, but still, no sign of the students had surfaced. It was only when the citizens succeeded in summoning hyun moo from the void did the story become clear.

The scholars found that the runes when combined created charms that may very well help the citizens to defeat ChiZao. The citizens, empowered by the runes sought out to prevent ChiZao from leaving his tomb. Many succeeded in reinforcing the pillars of the tomb to keep ChiZao in, but ChiZao was to powerful, breaking free of the inner tomb.

What was needed was a magical weapon, the shino bul that could plunge ChiZao back to his tomb for good. With the help of hyun moo the weapon was created by the citizens of the lands, and each entered the tomb to use these new weapons against ChiZao.
Vini,

I have been looking for quite some time on some information on ChiZao. Unfortunately, not many records were kept from before King Yuri's reign. However, a short scroll I found containing a terribly old language mentioned the words "Chi Zao". I immediately took the scroll to someone who could read the language in my country, and have finally received a translation. However, I do apologize for the delay.

The scroll reads as follows, in common language:

"Master, he was to us. We treated him like our father.

He was the most powerful mage in the world. We were his students.

Master became disgruntled as life wore on. He became dangerous.

Master would do anything to destroy what he did not believe in.

We, the four, performed a terrible deed. We tricked master.

We tricked master into coming into a tomb, far below the mortal
surface.

We, the four, combined our power and banished him to that tomb.

We wept for days, as Master was our friend. He was like our father.
Using the twelve, we buried the tomb deep within the deepest
mountain range. The tomb that ChiZao, no longer Master, would stay
until the end of time.

ChiZao must never be released from the tomb. Should he escape, the
people will have great misfortune and despair.

ChiZao will attempt to trick the people. He will use the same method
we used to seal him in the tomb. Should he trick people, people will
become misled. ChiZao wants people to be misled. Distracted.

HEED OUR WARNING.
THE FOUR."

I may add this scroll to my history collection, the Drifting Winds. In the mean time, I would sincerely suggest that you be careful.
Historian Qantao

"Dear Citizens,

King Senshi has located this old story amongst his private collection, which he felt might have some bearing on the tomb, which Nagnag has uncovered, and taken cover in. I am not sure what it means yet, but it may help to solve the mystery and he has passed it on to me to share with the community. This story must be hundreds of years old, or even older than that. It dates to a time long before Yuri, long before any record I have ever seen. It speaks of the beginning of our age, the age of magic."

- Sprit Guide Eldridge

--

The Eight Gates

"Deep below the ground in the furthest reaches of the land lays a dark and evil heart that beats eternal. No one knew of the power the decaying body would hold, even this long after death. The crypt alone would not hold the spirit at first, and it started to break free.

The master's students, the guardians who opened the new age of magic, gathered to hold their old mentor in his final resting place. Four mighty seals were placed around the crypt, using magic from each fork of learning.

For decades the seals held tight, and peace was upon the land. The great minds of magic continued to maintain the hold on the crypt, while developing stronger and stronger powers. But the pupils underestimated their teacher; for he knew more about the magic they held than any other soul before, or after him. The crypt began to warm again with power, the seals became weak, and the crypts powers could be felt leaking out.

Once again the four mightiest magic users came together to meet with the leaders of the four kingdoms who sealed the mighty mage. Magic was not the answer any longer, some how deep within the void between life and death his magic was growing. A simple lock had failed in the past as well. Together these eight decided to use a mix of both plans. Each was to forge his or her own key so no one group would have the ability to open the crypt. Each was to hide the gate in the ground so as to be hard to see for anybody who did not know what to look for.

Once the eight gates were in place the crypt grew cold again, and nothing was noticed. Generations went by, and still nobody noticed a change in the dormant master. Still the leaders did not feel comfortable. Each kingdom sent a small tribe to guard the tomb. Each sent equal amounts of men to make sure no one kingdom would have controlling power. In all twelve groups were selected, and remain there to protect the tomb, and the eight gates deep below the ground they slept on."

Shonono's Story

By Shonono of Koguryo:

The most difficult thing about being a warrior for myself was the need to buy expensive
weapons and armour, and also find good food such as bear livers for emergency healing. I spent a lot of time in the Rat caves from level 15 or so and sold Ginseng in Hamgyoung-Namdo and Topaz from Centipedes to other players. I also killed alot of squirrels for acorns!

When I could use the flank spell, I began to gather wool and sell it to weavers.
Flank attacks make it easy to hunt Sheep. Now at level 32, I began weaving myself!

Around level 36 I began hunting in the Iron Labinryth. The bears were dangerous but
because they dropped a lot of livers, I could find enough food to keep going.

There are many warrior spells that require fox furs. So I spent alot of time
in those caves. I think the Kugnae has more Sun Foxes than the Buya fox caves.

After I passed level 40 I began hunting in the Mythical Rabbits. They drop amber and provide alot of experience.

The Real Life Chongun
Early totemistic clans apparently followed communal shamanistic practices at first that included the yonggo ceremony to invoke a supernatural force. The shamanistic ch'on'gun ("Heaven Prince") associated with these clans may have carried out broad priestly and military leadership functions
However, the two roles eventually bifurcated in a manner comparable to the emergence of the ksh'itrya (warrior) and a brahmana (priestly) rites in Hindustan early in the second millennium B.C. It has been suggested this separation is marked by the exclusion of the exercise of criminal justice within the clan settlements (sodo) as they became religious centers increasingly under the domination of the ch'on'gun shaman priest. Perhaps because shamanism was absorbed into an aspect of the male leadership of the nascent state institutions embodying a social contradiction, shamanism as a popular religion at the village level became associated with women priests called mudang. In the sodo the mudang would have erected a (phallic?) poll on which were hung bells and a drum (yonggo - "spirit-invoking drums") for the shamanistic ceremonies. Also part of them was the much'on ("Dance to Heaven.")

Because the shamanistic rite had access to supernatural forces, and was therefore less constrained by circumstance, it was able to look beyond the clan to establish alliances. In fact, at the beginning of the first millennium A.D., the tribal kingdom of Saro emerged as a clan confederation headed by shaman kings (interestingly associated with metal working, as in African tradition). The titles of these kings were kosogan, then ch'ach'aung, and finally isagum, with ch'ach'aung meaning "shaman." These shaman tribal kings served to reduce conflict between rival clans in support of tribal state formation.

The tribal alliances eventually consolidated into The Three Kingdoms of Ancient Korea: Koguryo (from the 2nd century A.D.), Paechke and Silla (from the 4th c.). In the Koguryo Dynasty, the king performed rites at the shrine of his Urfather, beginning an ancestor cult that fortified political leadership. These kingdoms were deeply influenced by Chinese political institutions and ideology that consolidated the landed rite of clan patriarchs and tribal leaders into a military aristocratic ruling class. They also contributed to the transition to state-level society in Japan.

Roleplay
There are a few basic things that distinguish the Chongun Warrior from other paths. The first of these is our Valor, the one trait we are best known for.

Valor means courage or bravery that is shown in battle, but beyond that, Valor can also be one who tries something new or different. Valor can be someone who stands up for themself or for others. Those with Valor are generally valued as friends and most importantly, make good friends. Valor is the Virtue of Leaders.

Chonguns also possess a great patience. We realize that it is sometimes best to wait for the most appropriate moment to launch a fool-proof military campaign. A Chongun also never really feels the need to rush themself, for a good Chongun knows they shall make due with what they have and come out on top in the end. Chonguns are beings of Patience.

Chonguns are also "Warrior Priests". We respect nature and fiercly defend it, as we see nature a part of our Kingdom. We always strive to be respectful and courtoues, expecially toward our most hated enemy. A Chongun holds great honor and never harms another being unless it is completely neccassary, although we do enjoy a good honest contest of combat occassionaly. We believe that we control our own destiny yet we strive to understand the Ways of the Tao, if only to better our ability to protect it better. Chonguns are expected to be very versed in the past histories of our lands, for those that fail to remember the past are forced to re-live it.

A Chongun is a "Master of War" and highly trained in the fighting arts to ensure our ability to defend the Kingdom. While passive and sometimes silent one minuete, we can suddenly become an engraged warrior the next apon entering the battlefield. As Warriors, we still rely apon our fury and anger to aid us in battle. However we are not completely lost in a chaotic rage and retain the ability to stop ourselves apon a moment's notice. Afterall, a Chongun holds great discipline and self control.

If you desire to walk the True Path of Valor, Chongun, you must first become a Chongun in heart and spirit. Then and only then will you be added to the ranks of Chongun Warrior.

The Chonguns are the protectors of the people of Nexus. They hold honor above all else and do not tolerate the exploitation of the weak. The provide many services for the community including the ability to bestow a title of nobility upon all citizens and to pardon reformed citizens for past crimes. More information on the Chongun subpath can be found at the official Chongun forum, Legacy Forums.

Duties of a Chongun Warrior
The Chongun Warriors were established to defend and protect all people of the Kingdoms, regardless of any rank or status a person has. Chonguns are sworn to uphold the laws of the Kingdoms and ensure they are properly enforced. We will not remove brands for murder, theft, or attempted murder/theft unless an injustice has been commited onto the branded. Such brands are given to warn the Kingdom of dangerous and harmful people. Anyone that would steal another man's life or property is a threat to all good and innocent people. For such a crime, we shall not pardon you.

Chonguns do not fight for any Royal families, Gods, or similar groups. Our entire purpose is to defend the people and look after their best interests. Remember, it was MaDOg, the first Chongun Elder, who killed Orb to protect the people against the villainous power of the Darkstaff and SaGu. And if such a time were to come again, any Chongun would willingly perform such a duty.

Chonguns do not retreat in battle. We will stand up to anyone, regardless of how strong that person may be or what rank they have. We do not back down and nor shall we ever. We shall willingly aid our friends in any way we can, often putting our own lives in constant jeopardy to do so .

A Chongun shall honor his given word. When we make a promise, we mean it. Our word is our bond and no Chongun shall lie for any reason. Also, Chonguns hold respect for other living beings. We do not kill unless provoked or in defence of the Kingdoms.

Origin of the Honor Sheild
Jarof, son of Joval, a rich tradesman in the far off land of Han, was becoming a man today. It was his 13th year in these planes, and today there would be a great celebration. His two brothers had recently returned from a great hunt in the Mythical regions of the Nexus, bringing with them scars, but also great tales. Jarof's mother, Iun, had prepared a feast to end all feasts, for this was her last born, and after he left home in a few years, there would be nothing but an empty house, for her husband was often away. His brothers, the oldest, Kait, and the next in line, Fal. Kait brought with him a helm made from finely woven materials, and the strongest metal basing. Fal brought to Jarof a ring of such exquisite beauty that the maidens in the town would no doubt gawk in jelaousy. While these gifts were extravagant and pricey, Jarof was not phased by them, sure, he feigned excitement and enthusiasm, but to him, they were nothing more than cheap trinkets, no, he awaited the gift which would make them all pale in comparison, the manhood gift from his father, Joval. Joval had given Kait a doubled edged sword, with a handle carved into which were lavish designs, it was made of the finest ivory, studded with jewels, and the blade made of the strongest fine metal. Fal had received a large plate of armor, from the moons, inlaid with gold, silver, ebony, and many other amazing materials. Now it was Jarof's turn, and oh, how he could not wait.
When Joval finally entered the large room in which the celebration was taking place, he brought with him a fairly long box. Placing it upon the table, he nodded to his son, and began to speak.
"Today is the day that I, as a father, die. My third and final son has now reached his manhood, and soon, he will leave my home. It is a sad day, but alas, a mighty one. My son has bestowed on me the greatest love and affection, and I will never forget the times spent down in the fishing pond, laughing and carrying on. But those times are over. He is a warrior now, destined surely to provide defense to these kingdoms, and beautiful grandchildren to myself and my wife. It is in this spirit that I dedicate this gift to my son, Jarof."
Jarof arose quickly, attempting to look as though he was doing so slowly, and could barely stop himself from leaping to the box. What could be inside? A sword? A fine dagger? Gold? Beautifully carved jewels? Who knew! As he laid his hands on the box, his father stepped aside, looking on in joy. Jarof now broke the seal, and opened it, and, much to his dismay, a long, clunky shield lay in the box. It was not laiden with jewels, did not have ivory backing, or even a speck of gold. It was made of wood, plain and simple, with iron backing. Was this a joke? A funny prank played by his father? Would his real gift be awaiting him elsewhere? He turned to his father.
"Well, what do you think?", his father said eagerly.
"What do I think? I think you are joking. Tell me father, where is my real gift?" Jarof began to chuckle slowly, but, seeing no one else do so, stopped.
"...tell me this is not my true gift, father! You are a wealthy tradesman, this shield is fitting for a peasant to wear!"
"Son..." His father's eyes dyed, looking on in disbelief of his own son's greed.
"What? Say it! Because I have nothing to say to you! How dare you insult me like this! Do you hate me? Is this your way of telling me I am unwanted? Well then I shall leave!"
Jarof began to storm out, but then stopped, turned and went back to the box.
"I shall take this with me, to remind me of why I am alone. Because I am hated."
He snatched the shield from the box, slung it around his arm and
left. Once he was gone, he ran, ran into the city, ran through the streets, not stopping until he reached a fairly large building with a sign post out front reading "Recruiting Office". Then, he stopped, sat on the front stoop, and weapt.

Three years later, Jarof was a ranking Lieutenant in the Queen's army, having three tours of duty under his belt. The shield had been with him on all of these, as a reminder of why he was there, why he had exiled himself from his spiteful father and his spoiled brothers. He had grown to become a veangeful man, quite often brutalizing his enemy before cutting him loose the mortal coil. It would be on this day, that he would once again meet his brothers, in battle. Their village had left the Han Monarchy and allied themselves with a small group of rogues, calling themselves the "Guides of the Sun", or 'GoS', and taken up arms against the Queen. Jarof's division was sent in to quickly dispatch the problem, and he went in thinking he would do so with no complications. That day in the woods surrounding his old home, he had met them in battle, locking swords ferociously. As they laid into each other, they grunted back and forth semi-coherent speach.
"Father...loved you...you brat!" Fal spat
"...no.....he....spat in my ...face with this ...shield!" Jarof countered.
"...Fool! that shield is...more than...you deserve!" Fal was getting impatient.
They clanked their blades against each others and locked into combat. As they did, Jarof slowly gained the upper hand, eventually knocking Fal's blade from his hand. Kneeling before him with his blade to Fal's throat, Jarof looked up breifly, and as he did, he saw his mother again. She was being beaten by two servicemen, and his father being dragged away by an equal detail. Swallowing hard, Jarof looked back down to his brother, blocking out these images.
"...Kill me then, brother, you dis-honorable wretch."
"Excuse me? Who has served three tours of duty in her Majesty's service, and who is a dirty rebel, seeking more than he needs?"
"Dirty Rebel? Do you even know what is going on in your capital? Corruption runs rampant, power is bought with money, not work, and the common folk are trampled on."
Jarof looked up again, this time seeing his mother huddled on the ground, crying as she bled. He dropped his blade.
"Honor? We shall see what honor is brother."
Jarof slowly drew his military-issue dagger from his vest and ran to his mothers assailants, now standing over her, taunting her. As he ran, his shield hit his side, and when he reached them, he quickly slit the throat of the first, and engaged the second in combat, he also quickly dispatched of this one. Helping his mother to her feet, he kissed her gently, and apologized for himself. He then went off, to find his father.
"Come out! Where is my father? Where have you taken him?"
Jarof cried into the blood-stained streets. Finally, a man came from a building, and looked at Jarof questioningly. He told Jarof his duty was not to find his father, but to kill rebels. He scoffed at him, and returned to his building. Jarof approached the building and knocked down the door. There stood the man, and behind him Jarof's father, tied to a seat, seemingly being interrigated.
"Leave now, soldier! That is an order!" The officer looked at Jarof in contempt.
"Take up a blade, officer, because I shall not leave without my father."
The officer laughed heartily, and took up his large broadsword.
"So be it." He smiled and lunged for Jarof.
Quickly stepping aside, Jarof parryed his attackers blow and began to duel him, rapidly, splittingly, honorably. As they battled, Jarof began to be forced into using his shield more and more to parry blows, the man was just to tricky, using tactics such as spitting in Jarof's face, and attempting to trip him, to win. Jarof refused to sink to his level, and kept his fight up, courageously. Finally, the man struck the shield so hard it stuck to the wood for a moment, and as he pulled it out, Jarof came around again this time swinging feircly, and took the mans head clear off.
Dropping the blade taken from the soldiers, Jarof stepped to his father's side, removing his gag, and slicing his bonds with his dagger.
"Why, son? Why?" His father began to weap.
"...I was spoiled Father, I didn't understand why you would give me such a worthless item, when you had bestowed upon my brothers such beautiful items. I realize now that this doesn't mean anything, you are still my father, and I apologize, but, still, it plagues me, why did you give this shield to me? It is so cheap." Jarof said, looking puzzled.
"Take another look, son." His father was crying now, but nodded to his son's shield.
The shield had now taken on an extravagant white glow, shining from head to foot, made of some strange and amazing material. It was glowing, almost, a thing of beauty. Jarof could not speak, he was so awe-inspired.
"You were simply not ready for it. You are now." His father stood up slowly, and they hugged.
~*Priest of Fire*~

Peacocks' Principals of War
The principle of maneuver

After that, comes tactical maneuvering, than which there is nothing more difficult. The difficulty of tactical maneuvering consists in turning the devious into the direct, and misfortune into gain. [7:3]
Let your rapidity be that of the wind, your compactness that of the forest.
In raiding and plundering be like fire, is immovability like a mountain.
Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt. [6:19]
Now a soldier's spirit is keenest in the morning; by noonday it has begun to flag; and in the evening, his mind is bent only on returning to camp. A clever general, therefore, avoids an army when its spirit is keen, but attacks it when it is sluggish and inclined to return. This is the art of studying moods.[7:28]
Disciplined and calm, to await the appearance of disorder and hubbub amongst the enemy:--this is the art of retaining self-possession. [7:30]
To be near the goal while the enemy is still far from it, to wait at ease while the enemy is toiling and struggling, to be well-fed while the enemy is famished:--this is the art of husbanding one's strength. [7:31]
To refrain from intercepting an enemy whose banners are in perfect order, to refrain from attacking an army drawn up in calm and confident array:--this is the art of studying circumstances. [7:32]

The principle of the objective

Move not unless you see an advantage; use not your troops unless there is something to be gained; fight not unless the position is critical. [12:17]
No ruler should put troops into the field merely to gratify his own spleen; no general should fight a battle simply out of pique. Anger may in time change to gladness; vexation may be succeeded by content. But a kingdom that has once been destroyed can never come again into being; nor can the dead ever be brought back to life. [12:18-21]

The principle of the offensive

Thus the highest form of generalship is to balk the enemy's plans; the next best is to prevent the junction of the enemy's forces; the next in order is to attack the enemy's army in the field; and the worst policy of all is to besiege walled cities. [3:3]
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself. Thus the good fighter is able to secure himself against defeat, but cannot make certain of defeating the enemy. [4:2-3]
Security against defeat implies defensive tactics; ability to defeat the enemy means taking the offensive. Standing on the defensive indicates insufficient strength; attacking, a superabundance of strength. [4:5]

The principle of surprise

All warfare is based on deception. [1:18]
Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are ear. [1:19]
Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him. [1:20]
The spot where we intend to fight must not be made known; for then the enemy will have to prepare against a possible attack at several different points; and his forces being thus distributed in many directions, the numbers we shall have to face at any given point will be proportionately few. [6:16]
Rapidity is the essence of war: take advantage of the enemy's unreadiness, make your way by unexpected routes, and attack unguarded spots. [11:19]
The principle of economy of force
By discovering the enemy's dispositions and remaining invisible ourselves, we can keep our forces concentrated, while the enemy's must be divided. We can form a single united body, while the enemy must split up into fractions. Hence there will be a whole pitted against separate parts of a whole, which means that we shall be many to the enemy's few. And if we are able thus to attack an inferior force with a superior one, our opponents will be in dire straits. [6:13-15]

The principle of mass

It is the rule in war, if our forces are ten to the enemy's one, to surround him; if five to one, to attack him; if twice as numerous, to divide our army into two.
If equally matched, we can offer battle; if slightly inferior in numbers, we can avoid the enemy; if quite unequal in every way, we can flee from him.
Hence, though an obstinate fight may be made by a small force, in the end it must be captured by the larger force. [3:8-10]

The principle of unity of command

Thus we may know that there are five essentials for victory:
He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.
He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces.
He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks.
He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.
He will win who has military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign.
But when the army is restless and distrustful, trouble is sure to come from the other feudal princes. This is simply bringing anarchy into the army, and flinging victory away. [3:16-17]

The principle of simplicity

Now the general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought. The general who loses a battle makes but few calculations beforehand. Thus do many calculations lead to victory, and few calculations to defeat, how much more no calculation at all! [1:26]

The principle of secrecy

On the day that you take up your command, block the frontier passes, destroy the official tallies, and stop the passage of all emissaries. [11:63]
It is the business of a general to be quiet and thus ensure secrecy; upright and just, and thus maintain order.
He must be able to mystify his officers and men by false reports and appearances, and thus keep them in total ignorance. By altering his arrangements and changing his plans, he keeps the enemy without definite knowledge. By shifting his camp and taking circuitous routes, he prevents the enemy from anticipating his purpose. [11:35-37]
Lot of weird stuff has been going on in the Museum in Dae shore. Today Anind had to close and lock the place up, because apparently the fiery leech from the lost mine exhibit escaped and was killing people. In addition to the overspawn of the Serpantine Dragons, I think thats pretty crazy.

This is the event that released Spell Alignments into the game and brought about the first reduction in aethers on spells.

The alignment leaders manifested in our world due to an imbalance as we all drew some the same power source. Many of these spirits were angry and attacked the people of the kingdoms. So they came to split up the power sources and maintain balance.
A Cold Wind Blows...
"Since the beginning of known history mortals of the land have worked to harness the powers from the aethers to do their bidding. Delving deep into the arcane mysteries they have used these powers to aid them in day to day living, as well as in battle. Different paths, and different kingdoms have forged their own uses for this ability. Some have used the power for good, others for evil.

Over time however the powers we call upon have changed, in the most unpredictable ways. We have never given thought to these powers, and to why they exist. We have never given thought to what may happen by delving into such dark matters, and attempting to harness powers not of our world.

Some have already noted significant changes in our world on the spiritual level, yet as this bitter cold wind blows in my study window I can't help but think there may be a far greater effect of this that we are not aware of yet. The days draw darker, and shorter. I fear for what may lay ahead for the people of the realm."

-Spirit Guide Eldridge

Dark Minions
"I have received an urgent letter from the Diviner elder, Sarina. The letter states visions of battle, and war coming through the darkness. News from the far reaches of the Jinhan Empire has been cut off, but before the silence they tell of dark minions suddenly materializing from nowhere in what can only be described as raiding parties. We now have seen some of these raiding parties attacking in the vale, as well as a Carnage of Riches.

I call upon the citizens to protect one another, and be watchful of such raids starting in other areas of the kingdom."

-Spirit Guide Eldridge

"Citizens of great kingdoms, take heed. Times are growing darker, and powers we do not understand are at work here. Recently we became aware of dark minions entering our land. Now they seem to be growing in numbers and strength, as well as spreading to areas closer to our cities and homes.

Take care of yourselves; I fear the worst of this is yet to come."

The Ethereal Temple Appears
"A burst of energy shook me from my bed early this morning. In the distance, from the wilderness, I saw a bright light and heard a strange humming noise. I quickly got dressed, and rode my horse with all haste towards the light. To my surprise I saw the entrance to a shrine materialize from nothingness. As I stood in awe of the event unfolding before my eyes I saw dark minions battling inside, the war flooding over into the surrounding areas. They were battling one another in a furious rage. Then one of them noticed me, they seemed as surprised to be in our realm, as I was to see them here.

There was a silence that fell upon the warring minions, then almost as if they had found their common enemy they all charged towards me with weapons drawn.

I was frozen in place, unable to retreat from the certain death that I faced. Only by the luck and blessing of Orb was I saved. Chongun Elder Gildenstar, and Monk Elder Devion were close by, also coming to see what was going on. Devion quickly protected me, while Gildenstar covered my escape.

It seems that the barrier between our world, and the ethereal world is being breached. I warn you all to be on your highest guard, as the battle for our lives, or even our existence may be at hand.

"Citizens of the land,

After watching the actions of the ethereal beings I have come to this conclusion. Each represents a different aspect of the ethereal world.

*Ohaeng, the five, and the balance of everything it encompasses. Ohaeng is the center of everything around. Ohaeng is equal in all aspects. Ohaeng draws power from all around, in balance.

*Kwi-Sin, the afterlife. Kwi-Sin is a great force in the afterworld. Kwi-Sin draws power from all that is dead. Kwi-Sin is a master of destruction.

*Ming-Ken, the living. Ming-Ken represents love, and life. Ming-Ken draws power from the living matter around us all. Ming-Ken is a master of life, and love.

Till this time we have only drawn power from one source, causing great disruptions in the aethers. Such harsh abuse of such a force always draws its consequences, and this is the point we have reached.

The ethereal beings are here to resolve this chaos, and restore order to their world. I do not know what they have planned. I can only hope that once this is over chaos will settle, and over time the aethers will settle to a more natural state.

-Spirit Guide Eldridge

The Aethers Balance
"Dear Citizens,

Can you not feel it now? I can sense a great change in the land. The aethers that we use for our magic are starting to come into alignment. With the community drawing power from more places it brings more unity and balance. The chaos of the aethers is settling, and the chaos caused by our magic is being cleared faster."

-Spirit Guide Eldridge

Trivia
*Kwi-Sin means "ghost" in Korean.
*Ohaeng is a Korean word that represents the Five Chinese elements.
*Ming-Ken is a Buddhist term that means "life-force"
As I stood in awe of the event unfolding before my eyes I saw dark minions battling inside, the war flooding over into the surrounding areas. They were battling one another in a furious rage. Then one of them noticed me, they seemed as surprised to be in our realm, as I was to see them here.

Take care of your yourselves; I fear the worst of this is yet to come."

The Ethereals

Trivia
*Kwi-Sin means "ghost" in Korean.
*Ohaeng is a Korean word that represents the Five Chinese elements.
*Ming-Ken is a Buddhist term that means "life-force"
